The Capitol Theater will reopen after renovations

The Capitol Theater, the venue of Mount Gilead, is officially scheduled to reopen its cinemas this week after closing its opening last October.

New owners Carol and Ben Holsinger bought Capitol last fall as an attempt to restore the theater to be used as a theater.

The historic building was built in 1894 and originally became a meeting place for the Knights of the local Pythians. Since then, the theater has occasionally shown films in the 20th and 21st centuries.

“We wanted to try,” Ben Holsinger said of the reopening. “It simply came to our notice then. Unfortunately, it has been abandoned. ”

When the Holsingers took over, the theater collapsed, and the new owners spent their time bringing it back to life.

Through refurbishment efforts, the theater is now adopting a new style of its original brick wall and tin roof.

“It was slow and dirty,” Ben said of the reconstruction. “We get amazing things every step of the way.”

In addition to a plethora of cleaning and remodeling projects, new owners must update their film equipment at the theater.

Originally equipped with a 35mm movie theater, Holsingers want to show a movie that would fit in with a modern theater.

Capitol theater manager Angela Van Dyke said “35mm was a bit shaky.” The sound is good but the picture is hard to look at.

Not wanting to use the archiac movie machine, Holsingers have made digital projections their first priority.

“After he placed the order (digital machine) and was told it would take two weeks, he continued to order and it took two months,” said Carol Holsinger.

Finally a new digital update arrived this month, prompting the Capitol to host a test show The Good Dinosaur on January 15th.

Conference participants were delighted with the show and the new owners began work to bring back the rest of the building in preparation for the next reopening.

Holsingers have cleaned up the theater seats with a discount on the order, since their soft opening on Jan. 15.

The new project will be in line with Ben’s previous confirmation, and the Capitol will begin screening movies Friday through Monday.

Monday and Friday exhibitions will be held at 4:30 p.m. at 7 p.m., while Saturday and Sunday programs will air at 2 p.m., 4:30 p.m. at 7 p.m.

Capitol will screen the movie ‘Kung-Fu Panda III’ this weekend and next.

The interior of the Capitol Theater has undergone renovation work since the purchase of Ben and Carol Holsinger.

The Capitol Theater is scheduled to reopen this week after a three-month hiatus.
