The Center for the Arts, Nevada County’s first performing arts center, broke ground on Tuesday, May 29, to begin a long-anticipated multi-million dollar renovation. As the Center prepares to introduce exciting updates to its main facility, the Center’s signature program will continue with The Center OnTheGo series.

From intimate cabaret performances to comedy competitions, art gallery exhibitions – and of course – the best of music and theatre, The Center OnTheGo will bring a variety of different acts to creative venues to across the Mountains.

A grand reopening is expected in Spring 2019, with a completely new Theater Center (among other new features).

The total capacity of the venue has increased from 310 to 492, with a highly flexible floor plan that will allow the Institute to organize more events in its home. With double the square footage of the dance floor, increased seating, and expanded back-end facilities for artists and front-of-house for our patrons, the Center will be able to host more events. variety, from dance concerts to cabaret nights, comedy. fairs and festivals.

To greatly enhance the experience of the artist and the audience, comfortable seating, an extended living area and a gallery area of ​​23 feet, a world-class sound system and many green rooms are just a taste of the design. complete. The sound system is made possible by the generosity of Helen and John Meyer of Meyer Sound in Berkeley, Calif.

Helen and John Meyer are pioneers of sound. Since 1979 they have created new systems for Academy Award winning filmmakers, Nobel Prize winners, Broadway shows and touring rock bands. They created the Grateful Dead’s “Wall of Sound” and Francis Ford Coppola’s custom soundtrack for the release of “Apocalypse Now.”

Their state-of-the-art Leopard System reproduces sound with incredible precision, capturing audiences with energy and subtle musical details that deliver accurate sound to every seat in the house.

The upgrade will also allow for much-needed improvements to the Center’s accessibility for those with disabilities. Ropes at the front entrance of the lobby and accessible seating will be incorporated into the new building design, making the space more inclusive of the community.

The Center is also pleased to announce the installation of the latest Copper Loop Assistive Hearing Device for the hearing impaired. The system will deliver unique, crystal clear sound directly to cochlear implants or hearing aids via T-Coils. The system eliminates noise and background noise by sending the audio signal directly to the hearing aid without additional equipment or devices to connect or place in the ears.

The Center recognizes the important role it plays in bringing the arts to Nevada State. Therefore, the Center is launching a new series of programs called Center OnTheGo. During the renovation of the venue, The Center OnTheGo Series will take customers on an exciting journey to new venues in Nevada County, including shows at Veterans Memorial Auditorium, Grass Valley Elks Lodge, Foothills Event Center and Don Baggett Theatre. in Nevada Union. Country music star Clint Black kicks off the Center’s OnTheGo series this summer, taking place June 28 at Veterans Memorial Hall.
