Unusual noise could wake residents of Bozeman town Sunday morning – a helicopter hovering over Main Street.
A major U.S. infrastructure development project. Bank on Main Street and South Black Avenue is ongoing, including changes to the HVAC system. Developer Randy Scully said Friday the only way to get new heat and cold units on the premises is by helicopter – high-voltage power lines directly behind the building prevent cranes from lifting sections from the parking lot.
“That’s one of the challenges for us, to work in a banned environment like this,” Scully said.
This work is scheduled for Sunday morning. The Main Street section closes as units are being erected in the basement next to the five-story bank building.
Scully noted that it was not intended to be a spectator event.
Due to power cables and other site constraints, Scully said using a helicopter system is more economical, as it needs to be completed as soon as possible. The HVAC units will be lifted from the parking lot directly behind the U.S. building. Bank.
Scully, the owner of the ScullyWest building, bought the building earlier this year and plans to renovate it to return to its former glory. Designed by Fred Willson and built a century ago, this building once had large arch windows, a deep cornice and limestone and bricks outside.
The original art was heavily covered during the renovation of the 1970s, which included covering the outer part of the collection and adding large sun shades running the length of the building.
Scully plans to remove some of the 1970s additions and renovate the original facade.
US Bank is guarding its offices in this building. The aim is to complete the renovation, which will include work on internal offices, by the year 2024.
