Monument Health Sturgis Hospital opens doors to new A&E – KNBN NewsCenter1

STURGIS, S.D. Monument Health Sturgis Hospital’s renovated emergency department officially opens its doors.

The multi-year project was a complete overhaul of the emergency department, added space, private rooms, and updates to furniture and furnishings. There are also technical improvements for staff, a behaviorally safe room, and a negative airflow system. The $ 1.2 million construction project took just over six months.

The new space is a significant improvement over the old narrow aisle system, which offers more space during busier times than the Sturgis Rally.

“This new space will really give us a little more elbow,” said Mark Schulte, market president of Monument Health Sturgis Hospital and Clinics. “We’re really busy when we’re in the Sturgis Rally. And this space will really help, really improve, what we offer is world-class care during the rally for people from, as we know, from all over the world.

Renovations of the new department were made possible in part by a $ 150,000 donation from the Greater Sturgis Lifecare Foundation.
