Take a look inside this updated American school bus in Suffolk that takes portability to the next level.

After opening for bookings in May, American School Bus Glamping has set up its first refurbished bus in Barrow, between Bury St Edmunds and Newmarket.

The idea was born after Andy Barton, and his wife Fiona, ran a campervan rental business using old Volkswagen campers and refurbishing them for adventurous trips.

Andy said: “Until 2014 we ran a campervan hire business using old VW camper vans.

“It went really well, we sold it and went on a world tour.

“Last June, before we knew it, we were doing an auction from Texas to buy school buses.

“We ended up buying two and fast forward to November, we took them to the UK and spent the winter fixing them up and getting them to shine.

“We finished the first one in May, and we finished the second one now.

“We have sold our buses for the next three Glastonbury festivals and we will be driving them there for our customers and we will pick them up once the festival is over.”

The buses are legal and bookable with full MOTs, but bookings are only available for flash.

The business has seen a high level of interest, despite only taking registrations since May, and Andy is optimistic about the future.

He added: “We will look to get one or two after Christmas and bring them in for March, ready for the start of the season.

“We’ve only been advertising for two weeks and we’re booking every day. It’s becoming popular for big, corporate weekends too.”
