Disney parks are in a constant state of constant renewal. Resorts, hotels, etc. are always changing over time, with the seasons, with different festivals, etc. Each of these reforms involves “out with the old and in with the new.” Appliances, furniture, signs and other doodads are replaced and the old ones are sent to the trash pile…or are they?
Have you ever wondered where things go? No wonder!
Years ago, there was a product called Mouse Surplus. They have a huge store outside of Orlando full of things they get from Disney that have been dropped off from the theme parks. There are many items in each price range. To give you an idea, I bought an old key from the Who Wants to Be a Millionaire attraction at Hollywood Studios and there is also a full scale train car (I didn’t buy it!).
Mouse Surplus followed the path of Mr. Toad’s Wild Ride in Florida is somewhere along the way and lost, but if you are willing to leave the magical land of WDW for a few hours, there is a precious place on the way where you can take some. piece of magic.
Located in the city of Lakeland, down Interstate 4 from Walt Disney World, the Lakeland Antique Mall has a variety of antiques—but for this Disney collector, The main attractions are the history of Disney, which comes from the theme parks and theme parks. classic toys to Disney’s dedicated crafts made by professional artists.
There’s a ton to look at here, but I’ll highlight a few things that really caught my attention.
This unassuming storefront hides a treasure within. Photo by Gregg Jacobs.
You pull into the parking lot and find a building that doesn’t fit. But once you enter, you see that it is something special. As far as Disney goes, the first thing you see when you walk in is the line of Disney pin tubs.

These are old and new, related to theme parks and Disney movies and run anywhere from $2 to $100. You just have to roll up your sleeves and take your time to find what you really want.
Again, there are a ton of different things here, but the main attractions for me and many others are the park’s antiques for sale. Vault Collectibles is the name of the company that buys items from Disney that are actually used at Walt Disney World Resort (and in this case Universal Resort Orlando). Their section is located towards the back of the mall and is worth a visit.

These items range from clothing used by cast members to large pieces of furniture that once resided in Disney hotel rooms. One of the last types is a round faux wooden table with Mickey silhouettes around the edges and chrome wheels. These tables (they have many of them in stock) used to decorate the rooms of Disney’s All Star Resorts before the new renovation (and I stayed there and stayed at these, so I know they are real).

Tables are obviously used, but that adds to their charm. One of these can be in your home for $75.
Next up is another WDW theme park. The 50th anniversary is going on now, but do you remember the Cinderella Castle birthday cake from 1996 for the park’s 25th?

These signs show Cinderella’s coach and sit on the lights around the center of the Magic Kingdom during the anniversary. They are wooden and go for $100.
Back to the resorts, for anyone who stayed at Pop Century before the new renovation, you may remember the large headboard with Art Deco-ish designs of classic Disney characters.

Two of these tablets were for sale in Lakeland.
Not all recreational products for sale are really big and expensive. For example, there is a display of Disney holiday decorations that decorate the trees around Disney properties during the last holiday season.
There are also affordable items there, like the holiday decorations that hang on the Walt Disney World tree. Photo by Gregg Jacobs.
In this photo there is a golden lamp that, according to the sign, decorated Aladdin’s tree at the Disney Springs Christmas Tree Tour. It only runs $15. I actually picked up a few ornaments for myself and my family. They were small bird cages that hung from the Grand Floridian tree.
Moving on to another genre, there are talented artists/Disney fans who use their talents to create some great things,
There are many talented artists here who also display their Disney products. Photo by Gregg Jacobs. Photo by Gregg Jacobs.
For example, one seller carries things like old window frames and along with Disney pictures, maps, brochures, boxes of fine works of art. The beautiful Park Four window in the photo above is one of many available and runs for around $150.
There are a lot of good things here, but my favorite is out of my price range. Towards the front of the mall, there is a booth that specializes in Winnie the Pooh items. One that caught my eye was the original Disney artist Mary Blair, who worked directly with Walt Disney and did the artwork for “it’s a small world,” among other projects.
I got to see the original artwork of Disney legend Mary Blair. Photo by Gregg Jacobs.
It’s a cute picture of Eeyore, Kanga, Roo and Rabbit and it’s been identified as a cartoon. I’d love to add this to my live art collection, but the $22,000 price tag is a little too rich for my blood. That said, it’s nice to see a piece of Disney history in person created by her.
Even if you don’t want to buy anything, there is so much history in this huge place. Mary Blair’s painting alone is worth a look, not to mention all the attractions in the park. There are also many interesting non-Disney events. There are tons of vendors and booths there, and you can find something interesting no matter what your interests are.
You can see the store online at https://antiqueslakeland.com. If you’re ready to go in person, it’s about a 35-minute drive from the Walt Disney World property, a quick trip to I4.
That’s it for today. As the next president, I’m visiting Disneyland Paris next month, so in the next few articles, I’ll look at this great report and analyze it from many angles – of course the trade, but also the attractions. , food, etc., so please join me.
Thanks for reading and I’ll see you real soon!
